Definition of Paid family leave (PFL):
Time off from work with pay to care for another family member, give birth and take care of a new baby, or recover from an illness. Payment may come in the form of salary, insurance policies or government programs. California is the first state in the US to enact a Paid Family Leave program funded through contributions of workers; the state of Washington followed with a PFL plan and also New Jersey. Also called Family Disability Leave, Paid Parental Leave, Family Leave Insurance.
