Nicknames For Redheads

Is tetro (tete reault) a common nickname for red hair in French? 3

Tetro is the passionate nickname of one of my ancestors. Newspaper articles described him as a red-haired boy. At first I thought his name in Tetralat was my Louis Dupuis, but now I think it's just a nickname. However, the affidavit states that her name was Louisa Tetro when she was married, although she stated that she was Louisa Dupius (Wales).

The more I learn, the more stupid I sometimes become!

It's not a common nickname ... but maybe it's in Old French.

The reault, or ro, is very similar to red, the French color is used to describe red hair.

Maybe in Old French, but no, that word is no longer understood.

In French, red hair is a formal word called roux (red hair for a woman).

In less formal French they call it rouquin / une rouquine, while in Boli French its nickname (for male or female) is carrot.

In French, red cats are often called caramel (nge).

Sometimes the word is also used for people.

I think Réaux or Réault is related to the old French adjective royal which is now in the modern French Empire (e).

This is the name of many cities in western France.

In Quebec it is used for a person whose last name is Tetravolt, not necessarily someone with red hair.
