National Economic Council
The 19-member National Economic Council, headed by the Prime Minister, was established on October 3.
It meets twice a week to coordinate the government's response to the banking crisis. The new commission was presented as an inexpensive version of the existing Cobra emergency commission.
A network of trade ambassadors, including former BP boss Lord Brown and Lloyds TSB chairman Sir Victor Blanc, was also set up to support government abroad.
