While laminate floors mimic the look of wood very well, hardwood floors look better than laminate floors. If you have dark furniture, a lighter wood floor will brighten up your space and contrast beautifully with your design.
How do you pull up laminate flooring?
Use a heat ■■■. You'll need the help of a handyman to take turns lifting the floorboards and melting the glue underneath until all the planks are removed. Rent a motorized floor scraper with claws. The claws tear the planks. This can be expensive and will also ruin your laminate so you can't reuse it.
How do you remove scratches from a laminate floor?
Lightly sand the area with fine-grit sandpaper so that the putty sits on the surface of the floor. Sand just enough to remove excess sealant, but not enough to scratch the laminate. Wipe the laminate around the repair area with a clean, damp cloth to remove any sanding dust or excess putty.
How to remove engineered flooring?
- Examine the edges of your floor. On one side you should see a full floor panel showing where the installers started laying the floor.
- Raise the entire front row of floors with a crowbar and mini slide. Make sure the tab on the board is facing you.

How to remove laminate planks?
- Put on thick leather gloves and boots before removing and handling the planks. The edges of the laminate are sharp and can damage the skin.
- Move all furniture out of the room to access all laminate surfaces.
- Insert a 6" wide drywall cutter between the wall and baseboard. Then insert a flat bar between the blade and the board.
- Install transition strips or strips commonly found on room doors to close floor joints between rooms or to smooth out transitions between them.
- To remove the laminate itself, insert the J end of the board into the gap between the wall and the first row of boards to remove it.
- Once you've removed the first row, simply slide a chisel under each additional shelf to lift them up.
- Remove the foam padding from the lower part of the body. After gluing the laminate, use a scraper and a heat ■■■ to remove all residue adhering to the floor.
- Vacuum the entire floor with a shop vacuum to remove any wood chips or laminate.
