I'm trying to figure out what to do to make latex paint transparent. Can you add something? This is a technique I tried after painting a solid color on my wall and then possibly adding a transparent (dark) color with a wash cloth. My friend suggested that I buy a non-abrasive paint for this purpose, but I had already bought the color I wanted and it was just solid latex paint. Thoughts?
I would say it dissolves in water. Water is the primary solvent in latex paint, so it is the best solution.
Try taking a small sample of your paint and maybe add 1 part water to 3 parts paint. Try this mixture on a surface that doesn't matter to you (for example, painting a piece of cardboard or a pad of paper). If it is not transparent enough, increase the water / color ratio.
