Gold Lewis Dot Structure
What is the structure of electronic points for AU / Gold and why? 3
I don't know, we found w to find the dot structure of the electron. I remember the day we did that in chemistry. You do, isn't there a formula? Have something to do with the settings? Thanks everyone for the answers!

To draw the Lewis structure (electron dot structure) for gold, all you need to know is how many boundary electrons there are in gold. Gold contains valence electrons. To pull the Lewis structure to sleep there, you have to pull the AU and the dashed plane showing the contoured electrons. If you had a carbon-like atom, you would draw 4 points around C because carbon has 4 boundary electrons. For example, if we take fluorine, we will draw an F with 7 points around it, which will show 7 electrons on the edge.
The electronic configuration of gold is: [Xe] 6s2, 5d9.
There is a simple trick to remembering atom configurations.
Let's take this diagram as an example:
7s 7p 7d 7f
6s 6p 6d 6f
5s 5p 5d 5f
4s 4p 4d 4f
3s 3p 3d
2s 2p
1 second
ss can have 2 electrons.
PS can have 6 electrons.
ds can have 10 electrons.
fs can contain 14 electrons.
What you really need to know to determine the electron configuration of an atom is the number of electrons in the atom. Now let's take the example of gold. Gold has atom number 79, which means it has 79 electrons. Now, let us go back to the diagram. We start with 1s, we fill it with 2 electrons because we know that s can take 2 electrons per second. Then we go to 2ss, which also has 2 electrons, we also fill it. Then we pass 2ps, which can be ld 6, and fill it. We will first use 10 electrons to fill the 3SS, for which we will need to add another 69 electrons. Now we go to 3ss and fill it with 2 electrons ... until we use our last electron in ■■■■ 5d.
See the diagonal trend on my chart when we fill ss? Now all we have to do is count the electrons we carry that are moving diagonally up and to the left! No IC table required!
Take fluorine for example. This atom has 9 electrons, what is the arrangement of electrons? So here's what we do:
1) 1s total ■■■■, 7 electrons left.
2) ■■■■■■ for 2 seconds, 5 electrons are left.
3) Fill the first 5 slots of ■■■■ 2p, 0 electrons remaining.
Fluorine 1s2 2s2 is an electronic configuration of 2p5.
