Definition of Data synchronization:

1. Accurate reconstruction and/or re-sequencing of data to ensure its integrity, upon its restoration after a disaster or interruption. Since data is collected at different times (and from different sources) during a data backup cycle, restored data must be brought to a state that existed at a certain moment before the disaster or interruption occurred. Data synchronization requires availability of printed or electronic records containing data up to that moment.

A form of embedded middleware that allows applications to update data on two systems so that the records are identical. These services can be performed on many different vehicles, but generally require some knowledge of the application-specific context and the concept of synchronized data.
