Can the Durock concrete panel be used outdoors?
USG Durock® Cement Board is intended for use with tile, thin brick and exterior plaster only.
Also note that the concrete boards can be used outdoors?
It can be used on the outside of buildings as a base for external plaster systems (stucco) and sometimes as a surface system itself. Concrete panels give the wall surface impact resistance and strength compared to water resistant drywall.
Can it rain on the concrete slabs?
Most brands of concrete table tops consist of a reinforcing fibrous concrete composition that is poured into planks. It is extremely durable and waterproof, which means it won’t deteriorate over time when exposed to water, making it ideal for use in high-traffic areas exposed to the negative effects of water.
Does the concrete board have to be waterproof here?

Can the HardieBacker 500 be used outdoors?
4.2. HardieBacker®500 Cement Board can also be used in exterior wall applications such as exterior tile, slate, marble, stone, thin brick and artificial stone in any construction during IBC 2009 and in buildings constructed during IRC 2009.
Hardibacker can it get wet?
If the Hardibacker went crazy in the wet it would be a negative, but as you may have noticed, it doesn’t, which is also one of the advantages. The backing plate serves to support the tile so that the individual tiles become a unit when the thin film hardens.
Can the Durock concrete panel be painted?
Not likely. but formal training on installing the Hardie backerboard shows it can be finished with paint. Use the back plate on the tiled surface and fix the moisture resistant plaster wall to the rest. It is used everywhere in the bathrooms.
Do concrete slabs need to be sealed before installation?
While most available backplates do not separate when exposed to moisture and are reasonably waterproof, they are not. To prevent moisture from getting into the wooden or metal dowels under the tile, a barrier or seal must be applied to porous materials.
Is it necessary to remove the concrete boards before laying?
2 answers. The thin set and the tape should reinforce the seams. If you want to tile over the concrete panel, you will need to glue the seams. If you just want to leave the corners untreated, you’ll probably be fine because the seam doesn’t divide the center of a tile.
Do you need a vapor barrier behind the concrete panels?
You still need a vapor barrier with a concrete slab, but in this case the vapor barrier can go behind the slab. Concrete boards are heavy and breathable enough to absorb moisture easily. The vapor barrier behind the concrete panel prevents moisture from penetrating further into the wall.
